Most students in the department are members of the American Society of Human Genetics and receive the Society Journal, The American Journal of Human Genetics. Student membership in the society requires sponsorship by a member in good standing, proof of enrollment in graduate school and a $65 fee that includes an initiation fee and a one year subscription to the journal. The society has annual meetings at which poster and oral presentations of significant, current research in human genetics are given, and society policy on current issues is determined. Genetic epidemiology track students are encouraged to join the Behavior Genetics Association for an annual fee of $25, which includes a subscription to the journal, Behavior Genetics.
